Welcome to our website
Arran Holiday Retreats is owned by Nick Giles, a professional artist who works the summers between his homes on Arran and Australia. You will see Nick’s vibrant works of art on display throughout the holiday properties and in selective locations around the island. Nick also owns the fabulous Arran Art Gallery located next to the Grange in Whiting Bay. Be sure to visit the gallery to see the work of 80+ local and Scottish artists, including original works of art, fine art prints, ceramics, glasswork, jewellery and photography. There is also a pretty courtyard garden hidden away at the rear of the gallery.
Nick is supported by Suzanne, who manages the holiday accommodation together with a dedicated team of housekeepers, gardeners and professional maintenance specialists who aim to keep the properties well maintained and presented to a high standard for the comfort of guests all year round. Their support is critical to the smooth running of the holiday lets and we could not manage without them.
Self-catering accommodation on Arran
Traditionally a family option, self-catering has now become the choice of anyone looking for all the comforts of home and the freedom to come and go as you please. We currently offer 6 holiday properties in and around Lamlash and Whiting Bay, the most sheltered and the sunniest part of the island.
The locations of the holiday properties give easy access to village amenities of Lamlash and Whiting Bay and the main village of Brodick, where the Caledonian Isles ferry arrives and departs. The modern roll-on-roll-off ferry sails between Ardrossan and Brodick regularly throughout the day, 7 days a week. It accommodates up to 1000 passengers and 110 cars with a short crossing of approx. 55 minutes. After the last ferry leaves Brodick for the mainland the island is quiet and peaceful until the next morning when the pattern of island living resumes with the daily deliveries, arrivals and departures.
Our superior selection of self-catering accommodation on Arran each has its own unique character or special features which are described briefly below with page links to the accommodation pages of the website for more detailed information. To enhance your experience of staying with us we provide a welcome pack with local produce and complimentary toiletries from Arran (Sense of Scotland) together with lots of information about the island including guide books and maps so you can make the most of your time on this beautiful island.
The Grange is our premier property, a late 19th century villa of cream sandstone and a rare example of the 'Arts and Crafts' Movement with fine decorative features. It is a Grade B listed building with Historic Scotland. This impressive property has one of the best locations in Whiting Bay, directly opposite a wide sandy bay and close to the independent village stores, beachside bistros and restaurants. (NB: The en-suite bathrooms were completely refurbished for the 2015 season and there are lovely new private bathing facilities to all bedrooms.)
Peacock Cottage is appended to The Grange and is full of character features and an ideal island retreat for 2. It has a private garden area with seating to enjoy the views of the bay.
Alt Ardoch House has an elevated position with stunning coastal views towards Lamlash and Holy Isle. All the main living rooms are beautifully furnished with all the comforts of home. The house is surrounded by mature gardens, popular with garden birds and red squirrels and there is a lovely south-facing terrace, which is a real suntrap in the summer months.
Alt Ardoch Cottage also offers wonderful coastal views. In keeping with the main house, it is a traditional Arran cottage on the outside, but fully modernised on the inside with a spacious kitchen-diner and a living room on the first floor to enjoy the views of Holy Isle.
Azalea House has an idyllic Arran location close to Holy Isle with numerous footpaths to explore the coastline. This extended modern house is beautifully furnished to a very high standard throughout. There is a paddock size garden (fully enclosed) with spacious decking to enjoy the breathtaking sea views.
Silverburn Farmhouse offers a spacious family living and outdoor space in a great village location with spectacular views of the bay. This property is new to the market for the summer season (2016) and online bookings are now open.
