Whiting Bay has a mile-long beach with a shallow bay, perfect for beachcombing and paddling. You can walk all the way along the coast to King’s Cross Point and rest on the black rocks heated by the sun while you contemplate the imposing Holy Isle across the water.
Sannox beach and the North Sannox picnic spot have pale sandy beaches with a spectacular backdrop of mountain scenery.
From the Kildonan Hotel, take a left and stroll along the beach to a beautiful beach of soft white sand. This stretch of the coast has become a reserve for coastal birds.
The pebbly beaches on the west coast around Pirnmill are really pretty with abundant wildlife and amazing sunsets.
For a unique experience, take the uphill path to Coire-Fhionn Lochan, a deep blue loch set within a circle of hills with three beaches of pure white granite sand. (Access to footpath via Thunderguy between Pirnmill and Catacol on the west coast of the island.)
Remote & Rugged
Tucked behind Kilmory Hall, you will find a footpath (and fairy trail) leading to a stunning beach on the southern tip of Arran. Great views of Ailsa Craig, sand dunes and bracing sea air to blow away the cobwebs.
Lamlash has a natural harbour with the Holy Isle protecting the moorings from stormy weather. The Drift Inn has a large beer garden where you can watch the boat activity and enjoy the views.
